You Should Use ComproTax -- December 2004
By James Clingman Jr.

As readers of this column are well aware, I always promote Black-owned businesses and ask Black consumers, as well as any other consumers, to support our businesses at every opportunity. Continuing in that vein, I want you to know about ComproTax, the national Black owned tax preparation, insurance, and bookkeeping business that now has more than 100 offices across this country. ComproTax is growing by leaps and bounds, and in addition to preparing tax returns, it also provides franchising opportunities for prospective entrepreneurs. Yes, you can have your own lucrative tax preparation business, fully supported by ComproTax corporate executives and trainers.

For more information on how to become an owner in the business, contact the main office in Beaumont, Texas or go to www.comprotax.com on the Internet. While the business opportunity is an excellent way to economically empower yourself and your family, I want to talk about tax returns, what they mean to Black folks, and why you should use ComproTax to prepare your returns.

First of all, ComproTax is Black owned. Now I know some of you are saying, “You gotta give me more than that, Jim. I don’t support businesses just because they are Black” Please believe me, I know that all too well. Why else would our businesses be so far behind in annual revenues? But let me put it this way. ComproTax is one of the best businesses in this country, bar none! It was founded by Jackie Mayfield, a man who is completely dedicated not just to his personal financial advancement but also to helping others become financially independent.

ComproTax is run by professionals, experts in their field, who are detail-oriented, probing in their concern for their customers, and determined to bring every available advantage to their customers when it comes to preparing their tax returns. Yes, it is Black owned, but what matters more is the quality of its work, its high standards, and the fact that ComproTax offers more than just a place to come once a year to get your forms filled out. This business shares its success by creating more – and much-needed – entrepreneurs.

My experience tells me that some Black people will still look for excuses not to use a Black owned tax preparer, but please brothers and sisters, we have to stop that kind of nonsense. ComproTax uses the same forms everyone else uses; they comply with the same tax laws; they do electronic filing and quick refunds; they have high ethical principles; they know the law and stay updated on all changes thereto; and they work tirelessly to assure their customers receive every tax benefit to which they are entitled.

In other words, there is only one excuse for you not to use ComproTax: there is no ComproTax office in your city. If there is a ComproTax office in your city, it should be your tax/business service provider. If one does not exist, then please support a Black tax preparer, and then start a Comprotax Office yourself, or encourage someone else to open one. That way, you will be able to use ComproTax services in your area next year. It’s an easy process, and you’ll receive all the training and assistance you’ll ever need, from some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

Currently ComproTax offices are located in 15 states and 70 cities, and there will be even more locations opening throughout the year. (Check their website for the location nearest you) This is a call for support of those ComproTax offices by using one of them as your tax preparer and by enrolling in their training classes and becoming a ComproTax entrepreneur yourself.

As I said earlier, everyone should support ComproTax, just like everyone supports those other national tax preparation companies. And I am happy to report that ComproTax is supported by other groups, and that’s the way it should be. Fortunately, taxes are not just a “Black Thang,” even though Black folks pay a lot of taxes. Nor does tax preparation have a color or ethnicity; it is simply something each of us has to do, whether we like it or not, whether it is fair or not, whether it is legal or not; and whether it is run by the world’s richest families or not.

So why not make ComproTax your tax preparation company this year? Why not start your own ComproTax business this year? Why not eliminate all of the excuses and do what we have to do to empower our people? You couldn’t find a better company with which to partner.

As I travel across the country and sometimes speak at ComproTax offices, I encourage attendees to spread the word about this fantastic company and to fill its local offices with customers during the tax season. There is no reason that ComproTax offices should not be overflowing with business this year, especially when you consider all the rip-off tax schemes that exist to take advantage of Black and poor taxpayers through outlandish interest rates, promotions, car deals, and furniture purchasing programs.

Don’t fall prey to these schemes and don’t fall prey to the advertisement campaigns that seek to take more of your tax return that you receive. ComproTax preparers will get you the maximum return possible, and they will not offer deals that take money out of your pocket just so they can put it into theirs. Please seek out ComproTax this year, and see what I mean; you’ll be glad you did.
